Lori from Hugo, Girl!, and Juan (frequent bonus episode guest) join Peter and me to discuss our picks for the 2024 Oscars.
I am going to listen to this tomorrow.
From what I’ve seen
I rate the best picture nominees:
1. Poor Things
2. Oppenheimer
3. The Holdovers
4. Maestro
5. Barbie
6. Past Lives
It’s hard to believe I will like a movie more than Poor Things but I’ll see.
Best Actor – would pick Cooper slightly over Giamatti.
Actress – Stone although I can’t wait to see Sandra Huller.
Supporting- Ruffalo who really surprised me and Joy- Randolph.
I was glad to see Poor Things get the tech awards, Godzilla get effects. I was glad Spiderman lost Animation and Barbie lost Screenplay.
War is Over and Last Repair shop were deserving winners although I preferred ABCs of book banning.
I disliked three of the 4 doc features. I haven’t seen To Kill a Tiger but I liked Bobi Wine a lot.
The show was great. I agree with Ben Shapiro – for probably the first time ever – John Mullaney should host next year. I thought DeFoe should have been nominated instead of Gosling and Gosling pissed me off by complaining about Gerwigs not getting nominated but his number was a real showstopper and the highlight of the evening.
You were also right that in prepping for the Oscars, there were quite a number of movies that would’ve made my Favorites of 2023 list. Godzilla Minus One being the most obvious, but also Poor Things, Past Lives, The Holdovers, Anatomy of a Fall right off the top of my head.
You are so right. I said the same thing about Poor Things and The Favourite. Enough with the fish eye lens!
